Poverty Representation

Despite the much-enforced efforts in the United States on developments both economically and socially, poverty still knocks in the various societal settings within the boundaries of the great nation. Sociologically, poverty is described as the condition characterized by the inadequacy of the essential resources required to attain the minimum expected living standards. In contrast to this statement, the United States describe poverty as lacking accessibility to material resources, wealth or income. The poverty line used in the United States describe poverty based on income level, which is three times the approximated expense incurred of the subsistence level of the food budget (Staub, 2014). Therefore this has led to the implication of numerous individuals in the United States being described as inferior. Through this definition of poverty in the United States, several measures have been drafted to eradicate the social problem within the United States borders, such as the introduction of specific teaching programs for the individuals living within the poverty lines, especially after visiting the paediatrician’s office. The age-appropriate books have been designed to promoting literacy among the various family members. However, their intentions have been compromised to a specific direction that focuses on what poor children and families lack, hence misguided.

Although the program was designed to help to equip all individuals in society with knowledge on raising young children, the mission has been compromised, hence changing the narrative mission. This program is thus focused on what the various poor children and families lack. The program since the implementation has led to the derails in implementing the policies that were meant to promote childhood education. The program has also led to postulations of unfounded critiques in the parenting of the young children in society, hence the challenge in discussing the mechanisms of combating poverty and channelling meaningful investments in the anti-poverty programs well as early education. As stressed by the policymakers, educators, and researchers, the program has led to a common perception that various families living with the poverty line are fundamentally different from their middle-class families (Staub, 2014). As a result, 40 million individuals who constitute 12.3% of the whole population in the United States and living in poverty lines have been discriminated against based on their poverty conditions leading to a lack of norms, values and skills necessary for success within the mainstream of the society. However, the low-income families lacked accessibility to food and decent lifestyles; the programs were focused on the lack of motivation, work ethics and love of reading hence fueling the stereotypes blaming the low-income families for misfortunes.

Media presentation

In the United States, a literacy program is a form of media presentation in which the individuals are provided with a book during the paediatrician’s clinic visit. The system as adopted aimed at provision of the education to the various individuals in the society. Staub (2014) argue that the program is designed to benefit individuals in the United States. They visit the public hospitals in the bid to accessing healthcare services for their children. The program target the individual whose children are below five years hence at the infant stage, which demands cognitive health care.

The program as drafted was aimed at increasing child development with a consequent reduction in the poverty levels. Based on the program’s structure, the inadequate resources are what is being conveyed as the source of the social problem as argued in the media source. This is because the individuals within the poverty lines are challenged with financial resources. They can access the various programs that aid in the increased development of the children in these societal settings. The media, although, is adamant in challenging the implementation of the multiple reforms due to the backing up of the program by the different influential power generated by the vast majority and law society of the United States (Staub 2014). However, the media is fair enough to challenge the need to uphold the program as well as embracing various changes if the society is to eradicate poverty, such as the provision of access to food, housing, education as well as health care rather than focusing on the various potential inadequacies of parents. The media also challenges the process of handing books to multiple individuals as a way of eradicating poverty. The media is also challenging the various barriers instituted by Congress in offering insurance to low-income households.

Critique of media representation

The literature representation on social media platforms has emphasized the advancement of early childhood education in society. The media representation has highlighted the mechanisms in which the literacy books are being used to eradicate poverty to lack substantial back-up on eliminating the poverty levels in society (Staub, 2014). As argued, society should hold significant discussions on how to combat the various poverty levels by instituting the policies and investing in the meaningful investments that aid in eradicating the poverty programs and early education.

The media representation also highlights the corrupt nature of the policy as instituted where the policymakers, educators, and researchers shared a common perception of the low-income families based on the minority backgrounds. The media also condemns the various theories which were developed from the perception of the provision of education, such as the lack of skills necessary for instilling a love of learning to children among the minority children who needed more of the essential needs alongside the education program hence the long-standing stereotypes in the society (Staub, 2014). Besides, the children in the community need more of the other essential requirements to learn effectively as food and shelter form the basic need as evident in the media representation.

Poverty is the enemy of education.

As argued in the article, poverty leads to low self-esteem among children as the poor in the class setting are aware of their peers who dress more decently in the class, leading to withdrawal from the course. The various students who are unable to take breakfast also cannot pay attention to the multiple studies they are being taught in class hence translating to the perception that the students from minority backgrounds cannot eliminate poverty in their societal settings. In addition, they may cause disruptions in class as they are restless in class due to hunger (Omotoso, 2020). Besides, the individuals within poor minority backgrounds are challenged with shelter accessibility. This presents a challenge in revising their scholarly work as the settings are not conducive due to insecurity and lack of the essentials such as light to enable them to read. This hence confirms the media representation of poverty within the United States, especially in the acquisition of education.

Implications of the study

From the study findings and media representation, it is evident that poverty is a constraint in acquiring education among the United States residents. The various individuals deemed to be poor and access the public health care facilities in the United States are provided with a literary book from which they are to ensure their children read them as a means of development hence acting as a booster to acquiring education (Omotoso, 2020). This is because they are viewed as a method of motivating young children in learning. Hence, the projections from this study will aid in developing principles in acquiring education, such as the provision of the various other essentials in society. As argued above, the already existing policies have not yet managed to break the poverty levels in the community instead inculcated to the social stereotype in the society (Omotoso, 2020).

Social responsibility

The adoption of parental literacy during the pediatric clinic does not help solve the various poverty levels within the United States since the children lack the various other essentials to qualify for the development of interest in education. Their motivation also challenges the multiple students from the minority groups because their parents cannot enjoy the various benefits of education, such as the acquisition of better-paying jobs (Omotoso, 2020). The government should provide essentials along with the literature material they provide during clinics. The media should also challenge and provide recommendations as well as illustrations of how the government can mitigate the problem. The government and the various policymakers have the ultimate responsibility in solving the poverty cases in the United States through the institution of multiple laws that create more jobs for the individuals within the poverty lines (Omotoso, 2020). Through the utilization and implementation of these recommendations, poverty levels can be eradicated as illustrated in the postulation by the scholarly work who believe that collaboration between the various teaching individuals and the government as well as the society will make the students develop a positive attitude towards studying with surety of job which will be solving the poverty levels.
