“The Yellow Wallpaper” is a short story about how women in the 19th century were subjected to male domination, where they were not allowed to have their say about what they feel is right for them and illustrates the dependence of women on men, and their individualism and sexuality is disregarded by men. The story is about a woman, who after having a child, suffers postpartum depression, and her husband who is a doctor, feels that she should rest in isolation and ensures she does nothing, even writing that she feels would make her feel better.

In this reading, Gilman wrote the story from her own experience with postpartum disorder, where with a great determination she makes a statement about treatment of women by men, where their sexuality and personalities are disregarded. In terms of developing the theme, the reading has talked more about the experiences of the woman’s condition and how interaction with the yellow wallpapers contribute in deteriorating her condition. The plot is based on this neurological condition of the woman, while the theme of women disregard is not emphasized on in the content since it is more horrific.

The theme of the reading relates well with universal cultural believe that women are inferior to men, illustrated when the woman says that writing would make her fell better, but she can do nothing since her husband thinks otherwise. From this reading, one can understand that women have feelings and disregarding them has consequences that may affect both.

This is a poem about how love changes a person’s life, and talks about how it feels to find love after looking for a long time, where the persona of the poem describes her restfulness after falling in love. The writer is glad that such a day when she had an encounter with her love the first time existed, where on his breast, she found calmness and rest like a stream upon reaching the sea and from that day, her life is changed. She says that it is as if she has breathed superior air, brushed a royal gown and her feet and face are now transfigured, as they look tendered.

The poem is about love changing a person, which indicates that it was for the better in this case. However, it can be a good idea to be changed permanently, although it would only be good if the love were true. Love can only be true if both parties feel the same way about each other and the poem only tells the feelings of the woman. The poem is very credible in illustrating the impact of falling in love and illustrating that people seek to love and be loved, when she talks about her feet wondering for long.

This poem enlightens an understanding in why people seek to be loved, which are satisfying a desire of human nature that needs love, especially from women side, where all women seek to be loved and serve to illustrate the value of love.
