The local area network is a handy technology that is mainly used for communication purposes. The tool supplies networking services to a system of interconnected computers that mainly lie in close proximity with each other. The local area network is a very useful resource for sharing information and other memory related material. The use of the local area network can be broadened to include the connection to other local area networks and finally to the internet or other wide area networks.

 

The “MEWLANA-Mobile IP Enriched Wireless Local Area Network Architecture” is an article by Mustafa Ergen and Anuj Puri, relating to networking concepts especially on of the applications of the local area network. The author first presented this journal article as a dissertation. The author effectively utilizes the various aspects of the local area network in coming up with a technology that integrates the local area network, wireless transmission of information and the mobile internet application. The article proposes on the use of adaptive protocols for the effective transmission of information through different environments.

 

The journal article entails a presentation of two aspects in the realm of mobile network communication. One of the two aspects is the execution and motion swiftness of the mobile internet protocol against the wireless local area network. The journal article follows on the rapid mobility of the mobile internet protocol in relation to the local area network with the emulation being carried out on a test bed. A test bed is primarily a platform where experimental procedures of large development procedures are carried out. The test bed was primarily used as it allowed it enabled the evaluators to carry out accurate, transparent and replicable assessment of scientific theories.

 

The article deduces the inherent inadequacies of mobile internet protocols over dynamic environments. The article therefore proposes on the need for an adaptive protocol to ensure the wireless local area network performs at optimum standards at all times. The integration of the network protocol is indeed beneficial as it enables the mobile internet protocols to have fast agent discovery capabilities, increases the cell coverage of the different points of contact and enhances the performance on the rapid mobility of the mobile internet network. The latter is enhanced to limits slightly above those of the local area network.

 

When the performance on the rapid mobility of the mobile internet network over that of the local area network was evaluated, the results indicated that the current mobile internet network had an inherent shortcoming, as it proved that it is generally not appropriate for rapid moving environments. The journal article further evaluates the results obtained in the test bed and illustrates the connection between the performance and the mobility speeds of the portable appliances.

 

The deduced relationship is then used as a basis for coming up with relevant strategies aimed at enhancing the performance of the mobile internet network over the wireless local area network. This is the second aspect of the dissertation that mainly delves in the improvement of the performance of the mobile internet network over wireless local area networks in rapid moving environments. The two protocols proposed for ensuring efficiency in the different environments are the MEWLANA-TD and MEWLANA-RD (Ergen, & Puri, 2002).
